The pods resemble small jewel-like purple gems. As the chilli matures, it radiates like moonlight itself, transitioning through a mesmerizing gradient of deep purple, soft pink, creamy peach, and finally achieving its luminous MoonLight hue. The anticipation of its final transformation is as captivating as its colors. After years of meticulous cultivation, Monster Peppers has nearly perfected this breathtaking phenotype. However, as far as peppers go, MoonLight is more of a visual spectacle than a practical crop for culinary use. The fruits are rather small—bite-sized and adorable—but they still pack a decent level of heat. While not overwhelming, they offer a satisfying burn but nothing hotter than perhaps habanero or serrano, for those accustomed to chilies in the 1 million SHU range its a cake walk. So if you can handle your heat you should be ok.
( our spice tolerance is fairly high so this just estimated guess )
MoonLight F4 Pepper The pictures are from the 2024 grow season, offering an early look at what this pepper could look like and showing you the direction we are heading. Expect exciting and unique results in the next generation! The MoonLight F4 is the result of a cross between Red Moruga and a variation of Fire Moth, first attempted in 2019. While the full potential of this cross wasn’t realized until the F4 generation in 2021, we have continued refining it since then. Through experimentation with different Moruga variants, we noticed the bleeding calyx trait might be linked to high anthocyanin expression, rather than a random mutation. This insight, based on our field observations, remains a working hypothesis, but we believe anthocyanin levels play a key role in the appearance of this trait. We've been growing Moruga peppers since 2015 and, until 2021, had never observed the bleeding calyx trait in any of our cultivated Moruga plants. The appearance of this trait during the 2021 growing season was a pleasant surprise, showing that it may not be a simple genetic mutation but the result of specific genetic factors influencing anthocyanin production. The bleeding calyx trait could be more consistent in certain genetic backgrounds, particularly in varieties with naturally high anthocyanin levels. The process of isolating and understanding this trait required extensive trial and error. Originally, our goal was to produce a larger, fiercer Fire Moth phenotype. Instead, we found ourselves growing a smaller, aesthetically striking pepper with vibrant, colorful calyxes. This unexpected result has led us to explore the relationship between anthocyanin expression and the bleeding calyx trait further. We believe that crosses involving Moruga varieties predisposed to high anthocyanin expression may be more likely to show the bleeding calyx trait, and we're continuing to experiment and refine our understanding. We are still in the process of experimenting and processing this theory, as more work is needed.
We cant be the only ones thinking this?
